ADHS wird oft mit zappelnden Jungen in Verbindung gebracht. Doch gibt es auch viele Frauen, die betroffen sind. Es wird jedoch in solchen Fällen viel seltener erkannt. Sie zeigen oft andere Symptome als Männer. Statt Hyperaktivität stehen Vergesslichkeit, Tagträumerei oder emotionale Schwankungen im Vordergrund. Viele Frauen kompensieren ihre Probleme über einen langen Zeitraum hinweg. Deshalb fallen sie auch nicht auf. Erst im Erwachsenenalter wird ADHS oft entdeckt – manchmal erst nach Jahren der Selbstzweifel. Warum bleibt ADHS bei Frauen so oft unbemerkt? Und wie kann man es besser erkennen?
Andere Symptome: Warum ADHS bei Frauen anders aussieht
Haben Mädchen ADHS sind diese meistens ruhiger als Jungen. Sie träumen vor sich hin, sind vergesslich oder verpeilt. Anstatt, dass sie laut sind, haben sie mir innere Unruhe zu kämpfen. Im Erwachsenenalter zeigen sich oft Perfektionismus, Selbstzweifel oder emotionale Überforderung. Viele Frauen mit ADHS wirken nach außen organisiert, doch im Inneren herrscht Chaos. Sie brauchen viel Energie, um Alltag und Beruf zu bewältigen. Da sie weniger auffallen, wird ihr ADHS oft als Schusseligkeit oder Sensibilität abgetan.
Späte Diagnose: Der lange Weg zur Erkenntnis
Die meisten Frauen erhalten die Diagnose erst spät. Meistens erst nach vielen stressigen und schwierigen Jahren. In der Kindheit werden solche Symptome sehr oft übersehen. Sie haben gelernt, wie man sich anpasst. Auch wissen sie, wir Erwartungen erfüllt werden müssen. Die ständige Selbstkontrolle kann jedoch sehr anstrengend sein. Erst wenn der Druck zu groß wird, suchen viele nach Antworten. Eine Diagnose kann erleichternd sein. Sie hilft, sich selbst besser zu verstehen und neue Strategien zu entwickeln. Endlich wird klar: Die Probleme liegen nicht an zu wenig Disziplin, sondern an ADHS.
Strategien für den Alltag: Was hilft Frauen mit ADHS?
Mit Struktur und ein paar Routinen kann das Chaos geordnet werden. Es helfen zum Beispiel digitale Erinnerungen oder auch To-do-Listen. Des Weiteren sind auch Pausen und Entspannungen wichtig. Überforderungen können dadurch einfach vermieden werden. Lernt man seine eigenen Grenzen kennen, dann lernt man automatisch auch, wie man mit Stress besser umgeht. Austausch mit anderen Betroffenen hilft, sich weniger allein zu fühlen. Zusätzlich können Therapien oder Coaching unterstützen. Wichtig ist, sich selbst nicht zu verurteilen. ADHS ist keine Schwäche – es ist nur eine andere Art zu denken und zu fühlen.
